Remember Windows 3.11?

You would open different folders and there would be different applications, assorted into different categories.

TransMedia Plots Death Of The Desktop (which i don't like the thought of personally) opening things through a browser. It includes applications for creating, sharing, and selling photos, music, video, and documents, as well as doing content management, calendaring, E-mail, and conferencing.

Is this the start of something else?

I don't personally think the desktop will EVER DIE, even if the way it works evolves, its so useful, its like a wide storage system!

The browser-based software can be used on the three major PC operating systems -- Linux, Mac, and Windows. The Mac-compatible version is coming Dec. 25. In January, Glide will be available on portable devices such as cell phones. Shortly thereafter, it will run on digital set-top boxes.

Desktop WILL NOT die....I can't think of any other way that would achieve the same greatness as a desktop...but then again, everyone thought console and line based commands were the only thing back then too, and loook at us now!

A browser just can't achieve that functionality.

Extremely true mate, the desktop allows for even simple things like a background and its without a FRAME or scroll bars, its FREEDOM!
