In case you were wondering, the 5231 build of Vista does have both the x64 and x32 builds. When I installed it on my Athlon64 notebook last night, it installed the 64-bit version, something I didn't realize until I booted into Vista and started looking at the Windows folder.

I already run XP Pro x64 on my other partition, so I am going to see what (if any) apps will work on both Vista and x64 (mainly spyware/AV/firewall apps).

So far only one issue - one of the games that comes w/ the OS causes my video to go screwy (don't remember the name, it has the icon of the purple slug-looking thing).

The background around window for the game starts to go blocky, then it starts doing the same thing inside the game window. Closing the game resolved the problem. However, I just came across it a second time. I was running IE7, and I opened a link in a new window instead of a new tab. The same blockiness appeared, and persisted after I closed the offending window. It's not the videocard itself, as it runs perfectly fine under x64. I think it may have something to do with the driver that was part of the install. (Speaking of which, I actually got my full 1200x800 resolution from the start, unlike XP x64).

how do u check if the vista installed is 64bit or 32bit ?

Well, you can look around in the Windows folder like tntoak said before, or, even simpler, do you have a 64bit pc?

The easiest way to check is to open the windows folder and look for a subfolder names SysWOW64. That folder contains the required components for running 32-bit apps on a 64-bit OS. Unlike XP Pro x64, there is no 32 or 64-bit deesignation on the system properties panel.

Theres 2 seperate builds x64 and the x86 . You probably ment to get the 32bit build and got the 64 bit by mistake

only way that'd show up is if you wrote over the xp64 install

the folder exists but only contain 2 .dll files
i am assuming its the 32bit version installed ?

i have an AMD turion thats why i want to know
