images/news/amd.jpgAMD's making a strong budget play today, releasing its 3.2GHz Phenom II dual core desktop processor for under $100. It comes as part of a broader release that also includes the Phenom II X4 910e, clocked at 2.6GHz but energy friendly at 65W, as well as three new Athlon II processors that range from 65W-95W and $74-$119.

It's good to see hardware price dropping. My sister wants to move from her old Athlon XP to a new low-budget thing. I will sugest her to go AMD again.

My sugestion:
CPU: Phenom II dual-core
MOBO: GA-MA770T-UD3
RAM: 2x 2GB
VGA: Radeon HD5750 1GB
HD: 500 GB (Sata II)

This lowmid-budget rig will perform great for her :cc_surrender:

it's the time to build amd rigs, that's for sure. i built my daughter and patty new amd rigs, and they really are super performers. streaming video/dvd tend to look/perform better overall on their dual cores compared to my intel rig's dual quads. i'm very pleased with their respective amd build results

~update~

After a talk with my sister we decided to go like bellow, keeping the thing inside her R$ 1500 budget.

CPU: Phenom II X2 550 US$ 105
MOBO: ECS A785GM-M US$ 165
RAM: 4GB (2x2) G.skill Ripjaws Series DDR3 1333 US$160
VGA: Radeon HD5750 1GB US$ 234
HD: 500 GB (Sata II) US$ 70
All peripherals and drives of the old rig will be used.

Total: US$ 734 ~ R$ 1358

With R$ 1358 I wouldn't get a big deal in any computer store.
