images/news/bittorrent.jpgIt's done, Internet censorship is there.
At least, for the Netherlands, there is. As of today, the world famous website The Pirate Bay is a no-go zone for the Netherlands.
No, wait, hold that!
It's not a no-go zone! It is actually ordered to "cease and desist all operations in the Netherlands" and "block all access from the Netherlands".
Besides the technological aspect, which is madness offcourse, this is a demand for internet censorship approved.
The Dutch anti-piracy organization "BREIN" (Don't bother, website is more down then up), has demanded the block and got their wish. Mainly, because the owners and sued people would not show up, nor send a lawyer.
The Pirate Bay is planning on appealing and is working on getting a Dutch law expert on their side (for free offcourse
).
As of counting today, within 10 days, The Pirate Bay has to put a system in action, which blocks all Dutch origin. If not, the unthinkable will happen:
Dutch anti-piracy organization "BREIN" will start sueing the ISP's, unless they comply to their wishes and help block out TPB from the Dutch internet.
Do note, BREIN is not a governmental institution. It is just an organization, hired by the big firms, to "fight for their rights".
TPB will do anything they can. As Peter Sunde, one of the owners of TPB, already says:
Ok, so done. We have no activites in the netherlands. Never had.
That is true. The problem is, the international freedom of speech and freedom of governmental censorship is at stake here. The win or loss of TPB in their appeal will not just affect the Dutch, it will go Europe. After that, it will go USA, after that, who knows?
At least China ain't a worry.
