images/news/apple.jpgApple today released an update for its iTunes software, which shuts out devices that pretend to be an iPod or iPhone. Of course, the new iTunes mainly targets Palm’s Pre smartphone, which has been able to attach itself to Apple’s media store and.

The new iTunes 8.2.1 is certain to draw the ire of Palm Pre users, which are now apparently locked out of iTunes. Of course, Apple’s marketing staff has a much nicer way of saying that: iTunes “addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices,” we read. Oh, and “iTunes 8.2.1 provides a number of important bug fixes” as well.

There is no other information on the 77.30 MB software package that, at least for now, should be avoided by Palm Pre owners.

Palm isn’t happy about the move, but mentioned that Apple may be hurting itself. "If Apple chooses to disable media sync in iTunes, it will be a direct blow to their users who will be deprived of a seamless synchronization experience," Palm spokesman Lynn Fox told the Wall Street Journal. "However, people will have options," which include using previous versions of iTunes that are still Pre-compatible.”

...Looks like we have a Spoiled Rotten Apple
