I have been truly blessed this year in that a church member and friend help me to get my new lappy. It is an HP DV7Z in Bronze with a Turion 2.1 Ghz, 4 GB DDR2, 320 GB SATA, 256 MB Radeon HD3450, Vista Home Premium 64 bit, and some more stuff. Click the linky to see the whole setup. The help he offered was to use a credit card that he has with nothing on it. I could have bought the lappy myself but HP and DELL (I looked at both) wanted 29.99% interest (EGAD, is that legal?). The credit card is @ 14.00%. That will keep the total cost way down. Also, the price at HP is $1263.99 USD plus shipping. We found it at Sam's Club (a division of Wal Mart) for $799.99 USD plus tax or $863.98 USD total. I am working on two books plus the normal Church work and find it hard to work at home even though I have a beautiful office. There are too many distractions such as TV, dirty dishes, clothes to wash, the cat wanting food or outside, and more. With an air card, I can go to my favorite restaurants (IHOP and Ryan's), work for a couple hours and accomplish much more. I am so very grateful for the generosity extended. It is good to know there are still such people in the world. Feel free to offer some suggestions as to how to get the best use of this wondrous thing...Bill.

First off, I'd install a Cat flap, so the cat can go out and back in whenever it wants to, not needing you to open the door :rofl_mini:

:rofl_mini: I agree with scara (on the battery part). Also, if you're getting another battery, invest in another power "Brick" as well. That way you can have one at the office or home (wherever you use it most) and then keep one in the bag. E-bay is a great place to get an extra battery. I bought my 12 cell dell battery there for about 1/2 cost or so.

Congrats on the new 'puter Bill!

You got a good deal on that. FYI to anyone else looking to buy a new computer or anything electronic... Best Buy has an 18 month no interest financing deal going on right now.

WOW, the wonders of technology!!! I am working on two writing projects that may turn into books. The first is a religious topic titled "More Than Saviour" with the other being a romance story "To Be Noble". Each are going well and better with the lappy. Yesterday I was able to sit in one of my favorite restaurants and pound out 2600 words on one of the stories. I find it very hard to do that at home. I was looking to get an aircard for the internet so I could go online with having to worry about a wifi hotspot but have you looked at what that service costs? Through AT&T, the aircard (Datacard as they call it) is free if you already have a landline and DSL but it is $60.00 a month...OUCH. I have internet on my phone and it is unlimited for $35.00 a month. I found out yesterday that my phone will act as a modem. I already has the USB cable to synchronize the phone to the PC and come to find out, it is the same cable to go online. The software from Sony is a free download. As I sit in that favorite restaurant, I am online and typing this. Ah, the wonders of these new fangled machines. Well, must get back to work...Bill.

the data card is, depending on location, faster, broadband speeds, the phone is limited I am not sure if its alittle faster then 56k modem, also make sure there is no additional charge for using your phone in that capacity.

Hi Camaro,
In the short usage that I tried the connection through the phone it did fairly well. For what I will use the online, even a slower connection will, most times, do pretty good. I use the lappy for writing articles and the two books I am working on. I need occasional spelling and reference checks. That is the online need. So you see, it is occasional. And a good thought on the phone usage but both my internet and phone are unlimited in all areas. I have 43,000 minutes a month on the phone so even if they kick the time to the phone, it wouldn't make any difference.

I pray all are well in your home and you have a Prosperous New Year...Bill.
