Hey guys,

How is everyone doing with our Country in a housing problem, Banks failing, Stock market dropping, Security firms merging with banks, Federal Government bailing out institutions in the amount of almost trillions?

Me? I am really overwhelmed with the whole thing, and yes, I am effected by a lot of this

:christo: Luckily we can still afford our house. I shudder to think if we had to buy a house in today's market. We don't have the $$ down that they are now starting to require again. We are blessed.

It's the job market that's the problem for me. I'm having a very difficult time finding a full-time job (or even a decent part-time job). I actually went to a job interview last week and found that sometime between when they called me for the interview and when I got there, they got an order from upper management to downsize. The job I was going to interview for no longer existed and several people were going to be let go.

I had another interview Friday that will hopefully turn out better, but I'm not holding my breath.

If I had any money, I'd be buying gold or something similarly safe right now. The dollar is going to be worthless pretty soon due to inflation.

Ah well, the U.S. was nice while it lasted. All empires fall. We gave it a good run.

Goodness I hope not brew. I can see the tell-tell signs, I just hope it isn't in my lifetime.

Yes, and good luck brew (as Mike said).

Im with brew on this one, job market is a problem, other then that though the rest isnt affecting me, I rent, I dont have stocks. while times are tight with the rising cost of food, fuel, and all consumables we are still scraping by.

Bad times for us here in UK too :christo: but its rather refreshing to see something else topping the news apart from war.

I finally started a Roth IRA a couple years ago that is now worth 60% of the amount I put in. Thinking about cashing it out and just buying gold (as brew mentioned) or something that will either appreciate in value or will have value in other countries if I ever have to sell---a vintage Paul or Strat or WWII-era bamboo fly-rod. Something like that. Might as well have fun with the money if the ship really is sinking. I sometimes think about retracing my grandparents' steps and going back to Italy or Ireland. But it's just a fleeting thought. I love this country way too much.

But, as Thomas Mcguane said, "If the trout are lost, smash the State."

Lol every bad news has its upsides...

Well here in Canada we seem to be doing better than south of the frontier. Especially here in Quebec we have always had a more "social" tendency in many political areas (I'm thinking free health care and almost "free" education - compared to you guys often have to pay in the US). Though this is slowly beginning to change... For example, University studies charges are rising by the amount of 100$/year since last year, and they don't say when this will stop to rise. They cut the money allowed for loans and bursaries for college and university. Federal government also just announced they cut down the money for culture to almost zero. Hopefully the upcoming elections (October 14th) will kick that coacksoacker (yep a new word) Stephen Harper out of the Parliament. For people wondering which coack he might be soacking, I'd say it might be hiding in a bush... (Okay, should I get moderated here?)

Kinda depressing to hear that people are having such problems as yours guys :o I wish you all good luck. :christo: My little problems seem like nothing compared to what some others are suffering. Living with mom is a good life after all. lol.
