images/news/bittorrent.jpgThe International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently contacted the Swedish Minister of Justice, asking for the Swedish government to take action against The Pirate Bay. The IOC wants Olympics torrents removed from the world's largest torrent tracker. They also want to prevent future Olympic torrents from being posted.

According to the IOC, Olympics related content has been downloaded over 1 million times via The Pirate Bay, with the opening ceremony taking the top content spot.

The Pirate Bay responded by posting a new logo featuring the Olympics and has temporarily donned the alias "The Beijing Bay". The logo also now links to a torrent search page with the string "give us the gold".

Pirate Bay co-founder Peter Sunde told TorrentFreak: “I think it’s good that IOC understands that they will get nowhere with sending a legal threat to us. It shows they’re smart and without manners.” “We were going to ignore the Olympics, but now we’re loading our cannons. Our weapons of mass distribution are pointed towards China.”

well, everyone knows the olympics are just about making $$$ for the industries that promote them. at least the 'bay is giving the people what they want: access to the games, along with the ability to enjoy the competition without advertisements promoting merchandise and/or political hubris. good on them

The stupid thing is... I can watch all that has been aired here in HD on webstream, but cannot download it. Why am I allowed to webstream it for free using Silverlight, but not allowed to download it and watch a match of the female hockey  for free when I'm travelling???

I'm surprised they're making such a big deal of it. It's not like they're gonna air the opening ceremony sometime later this year!

 Long live TPB. I, for one, think that it is stupid that you can't watch the Opening Ceremony if you want. I had to down it (couldn't watch it) and I can't wait to see it. But hey...what do I know?

Yes yes, not a lot. :giggle:
