images/news/linux.jpgThe GIMP team announced today the first release from the 2.5 development series. It is true that this version is unstable, but a little bird told me to give it a try and see what's it capable of. First of all, let me tell you that its interface is quite redesigned and I think that some users will have problems adjusting with it, but that's just my two cents. On the other hand, version 2.5.0 of The GIMP includes some hot new features, like the integration of GEGL (Generic Graphics Library) which will finally get support for higher color depths, more colorspaces and eventually non-destructive editing.

Since I live in such a sheltered enviroment, can someone tell me what a GIMP is? That is a word normally given to a bad leg or foot...hee hee. And by the way, each time you click the link, Avast goes crazy detecting a virus and malware. Just thought I would pass that on. I would have posted a screen shot but I can't post a pic here...talker. ;)

heck bill, i'd lose the avast. i have been running the trial of nod32 for years...you just have to reinstall it after 30 days ;) {the older version, as there is less gunk).

It's an open source alternative to Photoshop. I've never liked it. The interface has always sucked and I can never figure out how to do the simplest things. Maybe it will improve.

And that blog was removed, but probably not before infecting thousands of machines. It was posted on Digg and Slashdot. At least you know Avast works.

Anyway, here's the official site.

I don't think there is a story about that. But on Slashdot, a lot of people commented about it. Like here.

Apparently, the article was stolen from Softpedia.com and put on this blog just to get hits. It was infected with some kind of Javascript malware.
