images/news/windows.jpgInfoWorld has taken it upon themselves to force Microsoft to change its policy of dumping XP out of retail from June 30th 2008, by calling on everyone to sign a petition demanding an extension. Never mind the fact that Microsoft has thus far extended almost every version of Windows past its original "expiry" date, with possibly, the exception of Windows ME!

It has found somewhere in the region of 75,000 people who have yet to buy it, or want the opportunity to buy it whenever they please. I suppose this was to be expected bearing in mind that this is the first ever client version of Windows that is based on the very stable NT core, it can't be compared to Windows 98 which was truly annoying for its lack of stability. Anyone who has XP installed probably doesn't need to upgrade, since the OS operates so well.

How dare Microsoft offer a new OS after 7 years!

I don't think people should sign a petitions.. all in all it's Microsoft product, and they do with it what they want..

It's like you decided to make house repair, and someone coming to your home and sayin' that you can't make repair because we don't want to.. It is really selfish guys :cc_surrender:

Let M$ to be as-is.. And do not interrupt work on Win7 with pointless petitions

So Bear, if said builder comes to your home and he takes down a perfectly good and stable wall (XP) and puts up a much more unstable wall that costs a fortune and will cause you nothing but grief (Vista), that's ok by you? I signed it. And would sign a lot more of them regardless of how M$ want to rip us off by releasing under performing super buggy operating systems and forcing us (and that's exactly what they are trying) to use it. I know all software has bugs but Vista is easily the worst OS since WinME. In fact, I'll go out on a limb here and say it's WORSE than WinME.

Thanks Talker. Much appreciated mate.

I don't think I misunderstood you at all mate. You said petitions like these shouldn't be signed and you said it was Microsoft's product (which it is) but surely we as people that give Microsoft our cash have a right to use it. I know XP has been around for a while now and we must all move on. I would have no problem switching operating systems. I love learning about new software and how it works. But the problem with Vista is it DOESN'T work. SP1 MIGHT fix a few problems but I'll never like how Vista feels/works. With or without that Aero crap. I just feel with MS withdrawing support for XP in March when they know Vista is nowhere near stable is a out of order. At least wait until Vista is at the reliability level of XP SP2. I'd gladly switch to Vista then.
