On Friday, the Dutch freedom advocacy organisation ScriptumLibre called for "a worldwide boycott on Trend Micro products." A banner on its website home page asks the question, "Would you do business with a company that would sue you for using a competitors product?"
ScriptumLibre's Boycott Trend Micro page makes the charge that the company is "abusing the patent system and aggressively attacking ClamAV users and developers directly" by accusing Barracuda Networks of patent infringement.
The page states, "Like SCO, Trend Micro has exceeded the boundary of decent and respectable commerce, it has become a pariah and should be punished." If nothing else, being compared to SCO should be enough to make any software vendor pause and take stock of its behaviour and its image in the marketplace.
