images/news/dvd.jpgWhat will be a big Blow to the HD-DVD camp, Today, Warner Bros. Entertainment will be releasing its high-definition titles "exclusively in the Blu-ray disc format beginning later this year." According to Barry Meyer, Chairman & CEO, the move is a "strategic decision focused on the long term and the most direct way to give consumers what they want," and he also noted that "the window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger." Notably, Warner will continue to release on both HD DVD and Blu-ray until May 2008, but after that, it's BD for life for this studio. Oh, and while there's nothing official mentioning any sort of payoff, we're hearing that quite a sum was dished out to make this happen. Full release posted after the jump.

If Sony plays its cards right, the Hi-Def war will soon be over with Blu-ray the champ

Awesome. Turns out my PS3 was a pretty good investment. I was afraid Blu-ray would go the way of the Betamax.

I dont know if the "war" is won, it does mean that they are willing to pay off more though. I dont know if blue ray is better but I do know without competition there will be hugh price hike's to pay for the increased production costs.

I don't think so Camaro. HD-DVD was actually the first one to pay off a company (Paramount) and they only got like one or two years I think. Blu-ray now has like 78% of the major production companies. Trust me it's over. And if you think prices are going up your crazy. The PS3 is cheaper then ever, only 50 bucks higher then the xbox, also you have to pay another 200 for the hd dvd drive for the xbox so it's a lot cheaper. Also, I just got 6 Blu ray movies from Amazon for 50 bucks including shipping and everything.
