I'm on the spend again :) and looking for a new Lappy (Laptop) :chriso:

Bout a $1,000 (£500) budget I guess, or thereabouts, and preferably without some pre installed crap like Vista (although I will wipe it if the spec & cost are right)

Any recommendations guys? :)

Not going to be a BIG gaming platform so a fairly decent GPU, but not mind blowing, CPU & RAM are most important for graphics/office work and the like :)

Hit me with it boys!

I bought an HP two summers ago for school. I'd recommend it to everyone.

I have the dv8000t model. 17in screen with keypad (this was important because i used numbers a lot). It has 256mb nvidia graphics card. 2gb ram. 100gb hd.
Only problem is they charge an arm and a leg for ram and hd upgrades. I would suggest going with the cheapest choice and buying upgrade from zipzoomfly.com then adding it yourself. This would go for all customized computers. My specs ran about 1200 a year and a half ago. I'm sure things have gone down in price by now. HP also offers the choice of intel or amd on all laptops I think.

Everex from Newegg, has a dedicated nvidia based 256mb gpu and can add second hdd and even max the memory to 4gb, snag a laptop cooling pad and still be less than $1,000, friend/client wanted to game and he plays WOW on it without issue, strong lappy worth looking into at the least.

Well I'd say you exceeded the $1,000.00 price point, but you did it with style.
