images/news/microsoft.jpgJust like anything that comes out of Redmond these days, Microsoft has delayed the Windows Hardware Engineering conference until the fall of 2008, in response to "industry feedback".

The conference will be supplemented throughout 2008 by "a series of technology-specific events that are designed to keep hardware engineers and Windows driver developers up-to-date," Microsoft said on the WinHEC Web site.

The WinHEC conference is Microsoft's answer to the Intel Developer Forum, with an (unsurprising) focus on the interaction of hardware and software, rather than just software. WinHEC has been the venue where critical PC hardware updates and revisions have been announced, however, as well as Microsoft initiatives such as support for digital-rights management.

The WinHEC conference is typically held in April or May, usually in Seattle, Los Angeles or San Francisco. The location of WinHEC 2008 has not been determined, Microsoft said.
