images/news/dvd.jpgHow about a talking director in a seperate picture while you are watching a movie? According to some this is where you are waiting for and picture in picture is going to bring this. The feature known from TV sets, where you are able to watch a show with another show showing in a smaller picture so you can watch both is already available on HD-DVD but is now also available on Blu-ray.
The feature will make its first appearance in the Blu-ray sci-fi thriller Sunshine and was already demonstrated last Monday during a press briefing. The same technology was however already available in the HD-DVD war movie 300.
The idea behind is that e.g. movie fans are able to see related information while watching the movie, this could be, for example the filmakers discussing the movie in the picture in picture window while the movie plays.
Before you run to the store to get this movie and to enjoy this new feature, be sure to check your Blu-ray player to see if it's capable to use the PIP feature as not all of them support it. Of course future models will and according the senior vice president of Fox also the Play Station 3 will receive a firmware update to use this technology.
Disney is expected to offer PIP in several titles next year, including Finding Nemo.
