I am staying away from the drm infested card for now, hopefully drm is on the way out and I can skip that generation of card.

gee cam, way to scare the poor guy... :likewinmandr2:
i don't think that's an issue if you are just playing games and watching standard video, which 99.9% of us are. even hi def looks good (i'd hate to see pr0n in hd: too many pimples and the like... :cc_surrender: ).

ok here just checkin a few things, but isn't nvidia better with linux drivers than ati? and do you think i'll do fine with the cheaper one just for playing games up to like black and white 2? i also would love to put ubuntu on and play with beryl and compiz fusion and whatnot. will the cheaper one do all of that fine?

it should. i kinda swore off compiz fusion because of window manager crashes, but yeah, the cheaper card should do fine :likewinmandr2:

cool thanks. wasn't that like the main card people used for a while? it seems like i remember that for some reason...

also as i said before, the drivers are giving me issues. I'm trying to get rid of all old drivers before i try to install new ones on this card. I ran ATI's utility to clean out all drivers, but it left the one that is the actual driver. when i try to get rid of this using add/remove programs, it just says "Error initializing". i don't know how to proceed with ridding myself of the old drivers

not sure but I think that means the uninstaller is gone, been deleted or something, or some key componet of the driver anyway.

spybot has an uninstaller/remover. works on some of those hard to delete (as in the situation cam discribed) items.

Seems more like it allows removal of the reference to the uninstaller which isn't exactly the best solution to such a problem, this moreso hides the underlying issue from the user. I won't say it won't/doesn't work however, it is possible it will remove files/reg entries and eliminate the issue but I would rather reinstall if possible or click Change/Remove and see if Repair is an option, after reinstall if it still cannot be removed I would look toward an application such as Revo Uninstaller which can uninstall the app hopefully then offer to clean files and reg entries created thus leaving the less "junk" behind which may help resolve the matter. (Revo is freeware which is a bonus)
