yesterday, i was in the middle of installing xp x64, when my scsi controller started screeching. everything froze. i had to abort install, and check the controller bios. it stated that a drive had failed, and that the nvram was not consistent. i clear the array, and try again. the "failed" drive shows healthy after redoing the array. 2nd install attempt worked, but i got tired of the drab xp gui/effects, and went back to 32bit vista. it has been running for a day, up until just a few minutes ago. the controller started screeching again, and in it's bios it now shows that a whole channel was out (dual channel 320 ultra, 3 drives on each). i have a battery backup on the controller. i might just pull it, and use a standard ram stick, set nvram to flush, and see what happens. i'm testing the consistency of a new raw raid5 array atm, so i'll at least have something to go on, hopefully. it's weird: once i clear the array, the buzzer stops, and all the drives and channels report fine. it has the latest bios (controller), and no other obvious OS errors (bluescreens or popups). it folded all night just fine, temps are normal. no "tick of death" from any of the drives, and as was stated, they all check out fine when reforming the array. i'll try a 'nix distro, and see what happens. as for now, i'm stumped...

Sounds like the ball bearings in your SCSI controller are shot. I'd get 'em machined or just buy new ones.

Pretty sure Brewin is still selling balls on the cheap You want his number?

gosh, everything is running fine atm. i switched out the megaraid ram module w/battery backup, and no issues so far. i guess it just must of had a wild hair...

UPDATE: after talking to LSi techs, the controller is getting an RMA. they said the memory socket might be faulty, and they will replace the card for free

all fine and good, but that means no system for the duration. as luck would have it, newegg had the raptor 150 on sale, so with the pocketbook's blessings, one has found it's way onto the nvidia onboard controller. and an added plus: i can now install the latest linux kernel, as the recent iteration of distros recognize the sata! compiz fusion, here i come!!!

makes ya feel any better , my SCSI card went out without any notice lol....come to think of it..the whole controller feels sluggish...
