images/news/vista.jpgAfter Don Reisinger's rant over at CNet News it's now eWeek's Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols jumping on the Windows XP Extended Stay bandwagon.

Maybe, just maybe it has something to do with Vista Basic PC's? Because in all honesty Microsoft doesn't do itself any favors by releasing something that "looks" worse than XP on low end PC's. Add to the fact that XP has had 6 years to establish itself and became a very reliable OS after SP2 (Service Pack 2).
Windows Vista probably won't be widely adopted until the release of SP1 (and that is mainly in the business sector only). This is standard practice.

It's only fair to mention that the mass exodus to Windows XP was mainly due to the fact that it became the first fully 32 bit client OS after Windows 2000 which was designed for the business sector and not shipped on (OEM) consumer PC's. Due to the wide success and adoption of Windows 2000, XP was built on top of that very reliable kernel. Vista is simply an upgrade, whereas XP was a totally new OS. Upgrading now is not a necessity in many cases for consumers.

I agree with everything that scaramonga said. Also, "bandwagon" is what I was thinking to describe the Vista bashing that has been going on. A year ago everyone was giving praise to Vista while going thru the beta and RTM releases. But when it came time to putting money down to buy the product many balked and said it wasn't worth it and stayed with XP or went with Linux . :rofl_mini:

There are problems with Vista, sure. It is bloated and a hog, performance is not what it should be, extras have not been what were promised and it certainly is way overpriced.

But I for one enjoy the look and ease of use of the system and realize that it will only get better over time with fixes and upgrades.

I admit that those who already have XP should not upgrade right now, and those that have older systems should never attempt to. But I can't help but remember when XP came out how alot of people swore they would never go to it and would stay with Windows 2000 or even 98SE.

It will be interesting to see a year from now how Microsoft has addressed the situation with Vista- whether they do major fixes, drop the price (doughtful), make another XP , or maybe a VistaSE.

If you want a better operating system...go ahead and buy, say, the new MacBook Pro 15-inch to give Mac OS a try.

Steven Vaughan-Nichols: knight of the living ASSHATS. what an ass. he is their "open" source "journalist", who is ranting on about windows operating systems. getting tired of seeing these stupid tirades (there has to be more interesting stuff to post besides numerous bashing threads, no matter the platform. can we think of something else? maybe post these in the x64bit cafe? :rofl_mini:
