images/news/amd.jpgWhile Intel is showing off CPUs that will be released in about a year, AMD is enhancing the old, more specifically, it is releasing a few new low-power processors. Part of AMD's embedded product line-up, the three new Athlon 64 CPUs feature thermal envelops as low as 8W and as 'high' as 25W.

“These new additions offer very low power and innovative processor features that can specifically address a range of embedded markets and they add to the multitude of power, price and performance combinations that AMD offers embedded system designers,” said Buddy Broeker, director of Embedded Computing Solutions at AMD.

The three single-core CPUs are all AM2 compatible and feature the benefits of the already proven K8 marchitecture. Nicknamed Athlon 64 2000+, 2600+, and 3100+, the CPUs feature power envelopes of 8, 15, and 25W maximum thermal design power, respectively. They all feature support for ECC memory and will become available in Q4.
