Found this from Digg.

Marketing Linux has always been a tricky proposition. As a community, we have relied on corporations who have a stake in the Linux operating system to market Linux to the world at large. Today, we have an opportunity to change that, and make Linux marketing as much a community effort as Linux development. That effort begins with the Tux 500 project.

Our goal is simple: we want to collect community donations to enter a Linux sponsored car in the 2007 Indianapolis 500. We need your help!

:cool2: This makes no sense to me. For the cost, methinks you could buy a 15 second TV commercial to run for a few weeks in major markets. Just my .02....

In one respect it would make sense, but only if they can win an win an win, you get the idea, associate a fast O/S an a Fast race car.

To many variables, will it be team Linux, or just a couple stickers on the car, and a patch on the fire suit
Ether way it will do little to increase awareness and interest in the OS unless they have an epic race season
to many variables, I think it's a bad idea

just my 2 cents

This page explains it better. The goal primary sponsorship @350K. I can't believe that would get primary sponsorship on any team. Wouldn't that be more like a few million? :cool2:
