I caught a new tidbit that AMD was going to be cutting their prices by 25% - 35% on the 9th.
So, I was holding off to look at building a new system ... really want to go AM2+ ... maybe July

But in the mean time, I'm gathering pieces here and there.
Anyway, as I mentioned, the price drops.
On Tuesday, the 6000+ was $369 @ NewEgg .... today, $319.
If that badboy dropps another $30 / $40, I think I'll grab er up.

I know, she's 90nm tech, but that's where the price cuts are coming. They're trying to clear room for the new stuff :crazy: :crazy: :crazy:

Any bets on the price by next Tuesday / Wednesday?

Better yet, any bets on when the AM2+ mobo's will start rollin?

I thought I read the drop was between the 12th and 14th. At any rate AMD will drop prices before the 22nd.

I think I can live with an R780+
But would hold off from the R600 ... as I have an 8800GTX ready to roll!

LOL... no. I meant before the Intel price drops of about 30% on the 22nd. That's when I plan on picking up 2 Q6600s at $535. each. Sorry, AMD won't be competitive till the 3rd or 4th quarter. If they lay the 30-40% performance smackdown on Intel with their Quads I'm in!!!.

I'm currently running an FX60 (939), so I'm not hurting or anything.
Just an upgrade junkie

And I'm not known for being patient.
I want to build my AM2+ board ... so I can hurry up and upgrade to an AM3 CPU ... and then an AM3 mobo ...



All so I can upgrade to the next gen CPU from AMD.
I'm guessing it'll be based on the 1208 pin (what's the FX72's??)
... as it will incorporate PCIe onboard controllers ... just like the current mem controller ...



But for now, I'll settle for an AM2+ .... when I can.

It's true :crazy:
... I set aside some $$ and it's slowly burning a hole in my wallet.
++ the bonus this year wan't that bad.

And it's driving me nuts that my OC'd FX60 is getting beat down in marks against other CPU's / though for 1/2 the price!!
I still wanna go fastterrrr
But w/ AMD, cause I just can't do the Intel thing ... as they live in my backyard and scare me dog

Truthfully, it sort of is Upgrade'its.

When I upgraded to Vista, I noticed ASUS cut my A8N32-SLi off the Vista upgrade wagon.
I'm not sure what that new BIOS is, but there are no ASUS sponsered Vista related anything for my board.


So, I decided it was time to upgrade. I picked up a new case w/ major room. Yes, I'm talking extended ATX / I can slap that dual FX74 setup in there!
I picked up a 1000w Enermax PSU ... for cable management it's semi modular (the main lines are hard line, the extra's are modular ...)
I decided to get the case and do all the needed modifications on it before picking up the mobo and other goodies ~ and got the PSU on special at the same time.

I've cut and modded the case (not a full on mod, but art work and some air flow mods).
All along looking for the right mobo to go with.
That's when I decided I'd settle for an AM2 CPU as 939 has hit the end of the road.
But which mobo to go with? the nVidia 590 chipset is ~ a year old now ... and I've come across hints at the 680a ...

So, I came up with a plan. Go AM2 now, with an AM2+ mobo. Then, I can upgrade the CPU when AM3 hits the streets.
The next upgrade from there will be to a full fledged AM3 mobo and DDR3 RAM.
See the logic

So, now I have this pretty cool case ~~ can't finish the air flow mods till I have a board and have chosen the CPU cooling method ~~~
AND IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS!


It's sitting there everyday when I get home!
It's stairing at me!

AND IT'S EMPTY!
... and telling people,


DARN IT! AMD, GETT'r DONE!

Well if you got nothing better to do with that FX60 I got a 939 single core in this board I would be willing to take that dual core off your hands.

I'm gonna hold my breath until the AM2+ boards roll.
Maybe the quad cores will hit the streets around the same time ...

Though I don't have enough scratch to go quite that far on my dime.
The FX60 ... will be donated to my kids PC.
Mostly as they don't have one of their own ... and use mine!

And I'm not talking computer viruses, I'm talking kid viruses ... and PB&J on my keyboard!

I know exactly how you feel DavARei. I've had a DFI ICFX3200-T2/G since December and a case for it to go in since January. They just sit in the corner looking lonely. LOL. I have all the other parts for a build except the Quad. I'm patiently waiting the Intel price drops on 4/22 before I begin. Fry's has a sale this weekend on the E-4300 which clocks as well as the E-6300 from what i've read. It is $20 less than retail and comes with a free mobo. I may do an ultra budget build in a $15. case just to pass the time.

Think I'll stick to the 6000+ and then con the "wife" inot letting me put 8gb of RAM in it. See how that runs on a linux distro while I OC it. :crazy: :crazy: :crazy:
