Hello everyone. I am going to build a budget system for my brother to run Pinnacle 10 on for video editing. I have a few cases laying around so i didn't have to worry about that. Attached are the 2 quotes that i sent to him. FYI: $500 max budget to follow.

I could use any feedback. Should i bother with an X2 or just go with a single core...should i go with 939 and save some more money...etc...

Thanks for your time.

When editing video 3 things matter most, the power of your cpu and graphics card and hard drive space. So the more power you can get for your money the better.

for video editing, a powerhouse gpu is not so much an issue as the cpu. i would look at either a s939 with bigger cojones (is the pinnacle app multi threaded? if so, the 'tallest' dual core you can find), or go with a conroe. best $$$ deal would be a high clocked s939 opti/athlon and a bunch of ddr1 memory...

Thanks for the feedback guys, but remember, i have a $500 budget to follow. Looking into a s939 quote right now, single core...here it is:

Yeah, that might be the best you can do. Sadly, the phrase budget video editing system is somewhat a oxymoron. I have friends that have several thousand dollar G5's and they still aren't happy with their video editing performance. So, I would say go with that one and try it or better yet save up some more money for a conroe, better mobo, and more memory.

I see you prolly have the system you are looking for, however liteon has a somewhat cheaper 18X dvd burner, I got one for my sister for $28 couple of other things to note, micro board might be more of a hassel then its worth.

18X burners can be and are usually insanely loud, we had 6 and every single last one was very loud. I generally stay with AMD but taking a look at a dual core Intel might be ideal. An example is one I have for people here that want a basic system, add a vid card and double mem and it isnt too bad and cheap still...
MSI 7267-030 775 mobo
P4 Dual Core 820 775 (2.8GHz)
512MB PC4200
WD 160GB
LG DL DVDRW
floppy is desired
mid tower with 450psu
this cost about 400 bucks, but locally so online you can likely get a better price, works well, very fast, suprised how nice the p4 is

This sytem with 1 GB DDR667 and a budget nVidia/ATi card would rock :hi:

Indeed, and the best thing is it really is on the cheap side, but she runs really well so I'd think about this as a very viable option, these are what I offer locally and will be using for my Quickbooks database and other office related apps and such. :hi:
