Caveat: I haven't run a 32bit OS (MS or *nix) day-to-day in a long time so I have no idea how this might compare.
Ok, with that said, so far, so good. Logitech hasn't released a Vista64 driver for the G15 keyboard which kinda sucks. But that company has been so far ahead of the curve in supporting the MS move to 64 that it's hard to complain about them. Imho, they've been the most supportive peripheral company in the move to 64 bits. Their 64bit Setpoint for the G5 mouse is excellent.
Overall, it's fine. If I had to say something negative, it'd be that I don't notice much of an improvement over X64. Common gripe I guess. A new OS that isn't free, imho, should show a marked performance improvement. If I had to say something positive, it'd be a well done Media Center, and, of course, Search. AeroGlass is pretty well done though it does take more memory than I'd like. But, perhaps that's because I still only run 2g of ram. (<---How '2007' does that sound?
) I'd love to be able to unload the whole thing to my video card's ram but c'est la vie. Unlike with x64, I don't feel the need to turn off the default theme and make everything look like NT 4.0. The fonts look a lot smoother and the effects are decent enough to leave on. With x64's XP default theme, the first thing after an install was to switch to windows' classic. Even though I could still do that, most everything is performing well enough to leave Aero on.
I get about 5 fps more on average in HL2 than I did in X64. That's gotta be an nVidia driver improvement or a DirectX thing but it's still cool.
All the apps. I depend on are working fine.
The only worry is that the Vista64 NF4 sata-raid drivers will get corrupted. Like most every MS user, I keep most of my files on a separate FAT32 partition in case of OS failure or for network sharing or whatever. But that partition is still on my striped Barracudas. If the Vista64 raid driver craps out and breaks the raid, I'd have to restore a lot of data.
For now, thumbs up for not being worse than x64 and including Media Center and a better search. Thumbs down for not being much better than x64, performance-wise.
If my games would work in Ubuntu, f the whole lot.
