Hi Everyone  ,
Well, I started a new job this week. I am sales and personell manager of a local computer store. The meat cutter job was interfering too much with the church and my work there. I had been there a long time but my first love and responsibility is the church so I had to make a change. Most of the problems began when we were bought out last year and it went into effect January 1, 2007. The job description kept expanding and expanding without any extra compensation, a 90% cut in benefits, and a constant hassle about about overtime. Odd how they want you to produce more and more but do it in less time...amazing, ain't it.

Anyway, I may be lurking more here with probably more Vista questions yet it seems that few have apopted the new OS and even fewer want to. Talk at all of you later...talker. :roadrunner:

TALKER!!!!!! Soooooo happy to hear the great news!!! I can't wait to see you around more!! Will you stop into skype from time to time as well?!
I hope the new job works out well for you my friend!!

Also, while you were gone some interesting things happened, more and more are trying and liking vista! David Heavy was the last person to accept that OS has being ok, but we all admit it still needs more work.

Hey Tony, have fun on your vacation!! Where you going buddy??!

I'm sure having a awesome time on mine, that's for sure!!

lol, 600.00 for a phone is way too rich for my blood. maybe when i was younger i might have had an interest in one, but i cant even seem to get my nokia phone to work with all its bells and whistles. I generally give my phone to others so they can enter in their information into my address book.

lol I don't even have an mp3 player I'm still using a portable CD player (that doesn't read mp3 CD's) and I've only had my cellphone for less than a year and it's quite simple, payed 30 bucks and only thing it has is a photo camera that I don't even use. I don't know what I'd do with such a thing as an iPhone! I'm sure most of the people who buy those get them to look flashy and don't even use most of their functions... Sad but that's how it is.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the well wishes. OK MO, I know you LOVE Vista but I still don't trust that OS. My thoughts have not change that there is just something wrong with that software. There is something lurking behind the scenes in the OS. I don't know what it is and Microsoft, of course, isn't saying. Call me paranoid but those that know me will remember that I have been saying the same thing since the early Beta builds from last year. As for as adoption by the consumer, even though I have just started at the computer store, I have been going by there for many years and keeping up with things. The market for Vista is almost non-existant. Some are coming to us for systems because we still have and can get XP. The major stores and OEMs give the customer no option except Vista. It is not being adopted well or quickly. Basically, at least from our point of view, Vista has been a flop and has added little or nothing to drive the market and increase sales. If this changes, I will let you know.

They can have my XP x64 system for a Vista system when they pry my mouse out of my cold, dead fingers...talker. :roadrunner:

My thoughts exactly. :roadrunner: I have yet to see anything in Vista that would make the transition worthwhile. For those coming from XP Home or Pro, I guess an argument could be made either way. But imho, XP x64 works great.

talker, anyone asking about linux? at this point in time, for me, and after patty adopting mandriva at the blink of an eye, i would prefer a linux distro over xp. in fact, i removed my floppy drive some time back, so if i want an OS to install, it will have to have my storage drivers included. kind of "scorching bridges", rather than burning... :roadrunner:

Mo,
There is little talk of Linux :roadrunner: in the store but I believe that is simply due to none of us using or having much experience with the alternate OS. I myself have never had a Linux system even though I have had several Linux CDs over the years. In dealing with the general public, a great rule of thumb is to keep things VERY simple. Having to discuss finding drivers and hardware to play well with the alternate OS (even though much better now than in past years) would be adding nightmares to an already, at times, difficult situation. We often forget, but I am reminded everyday, of the ignorance of the general public concerning OS, things like drivers, hardware and computers in general. We get spoiled talking to each other here and other places and forget that we are not the general public when it comes to these infernal machines...talker :g:

Hi Camaro,
It is good to see you.

We have, at any given time, have 6 to 8 systems set up and running in the store for customers to see and putz with. None of the systems have Vista installed. When you factor the system that we have to build to support Vista and then the added cost of the OS over XP, it just really isn't worth it. Often when people come in they have a print out from Dell, Gateway, etc and are price shopping as the initial thing to look at. Vista just blows that out of the water before I can even talk to them. We have no problem getting XP Home or Pro so we still give them the choice...talker. :roadrunner:

Hi all!
I have a FREE copy of Vista HP x86 gathering dust in my bedroom. I'm gonna put it on this rig (dif. HDD), for the forum wars. Then I'll wipe it out and move xp x64 over to that HDD and use this one for storage. No point using a gaffy OS if I don't have to. I'll have to install vista on the new build though............the fiance has given her orders. She likes the sexy bits(silly woman).
My issue with vista has always been that it tends to take over every HDD in the rig, and I don't like that.

Hi there, Talker......have a nice day.
