Waddup MO.

Got my 2 x 1tb WD Greens today.

...and apparently my stupid SYBA SATA PCI card isn't compatible with my eVGA 780i mobo or something. During bootup I get this "warning: Have option ROM can not be invoke (Vendor ID:..." etc warning. Googled it and seems there's some kind of conflict between the two.

It's strange though. With a Windows update, I can see and use the drives. However, I can't get into the BIOS of the card to do RAID or anything. I'm working with using the software RAID Windows 7 has inherently but I'm not sure if it's a good idea...

Think that'll be okay or do you still have a SATA card you're not using?

Always something, ain't it? :giggle:

i wouldn't use the winders raid. it could be an smb issue, and nvidia are known for this re hba. i have the perc5/i, but again, you would have to tape off a coupla pci-e teeth to get 'er going (storm did this with very good results). if ya want teh card, let me know. it even has a bbu to protect your cached data in case of a power failure...oh, and cables (does 8 drives).

Well, somehow, some way, I was able to make it to where I can't even use the drives through the card period. After trying a couple tricks such as turning the NVRaid off in able to get the Silicon to let me into its BIOS (it didn't), disabling random things in my BIOS (didn't work), etc, I just ended up having to pull it out, stick it back in (huh huh), do a little dance, and now Windows Update won't even give me the driver I had working the first time lol...

So why would I have to tape off some of its teefesus? I have 2 empty PCI-Express slots and 1 empty PCI slot (after I pull this SYBA card, take it into the woods, and shoot it repeatedly).

Ain't nothin like having new toys (even if they're just hard drives for back up purposes) and not being able to use 'em. :giggle:

because the nvidia chip bios gets confused, and taping off a few teeth will hide the confusion. strom used scotch tape i think...i'll dig up a pic, but it will have to wait, as newcastle was on sale. and i'm close to three sails atm...

lmao @ my last post. I needed sleep.

I wasn't flashing anything. I was just going to try to reset my CMOS and see if it helped.

Well, it did help...to allow me to see the drives again. Still no access to the Silicon BIOS, so I believe it remains broken.

Since I don't really need speed since this array is just for back up duty (except for playing music files...) maybe just using the Winders RAID would work alright. As long as I could still use the drives just fine when I reformat...without having to wipe them...and as long as I could rip one of the drives out and use it as a regular data drive (especially if one fails) then I think I might be alright with the way they are now.

Are there cons to the Winders software RAID other than lack of speed?

:giggle: super rik!

hey enip, it might be buggy using the winders raid, you will be using your cpu solely for the parity calculations, rather than the chipset/cpu, to name a couple, though heck, it might be fine...
