Thanks, I was looking at the pic trying to figure out what the leopard and the mouse were thinking. Got any ideas?

How about these captions....

"Excuse me, it is obvious that you still do not understand the problem."

or

"It is obvious to me that you still do not fully grasp the problem."

Well, is that just random meat chunks for the leopard to eat or the remains of fellow mice?

Looks like the mouse isn't even acknowledging the leopard's existence. He's got other things on his mind (ie "Om nom nom"). The leopard appears to be amused by the mouse's dismissal of him...

That's all I got. :bluerip:

"meatspace"...leopard...a mac reference? so if you own a mac, you have to feed it chunks of baby flesh?

Waddup peoples.

I had a quick question and didn't think it worthy of a thread.

I know that you can't really move a RAID +0 array from one controller to another and retain the array. However, due to my external drive dying I'm now considering getting a couple of HDDs and running a RAID +1 array to keep my important stuff on. I've never ran a mirrored array before and was wondering if it was possible to move one from one computer/mobo/controller to another.

With a RAID +1 it just writes the same data to both drives....so I was hoping I would be able to move it. That way, when I upgrade my PC I would be able to keep the array and what not.

Would that work?

TIA.

You know, I completely forgot about this old SYBA 4 adaptor SATA 150 card I have lying around somewhere. As long as the card is alright, there isn't too big of a drop off between SATA 150 and SATA II (is there?), and regular PCI slots aren't going out of style any time soon then that should work, right?

I could just move the card to the new build, attach the HDDs, and retain the array?

Thanks for the offer on the card, mang. :giggle:

for a storage array, it (your existing card) might be the ticket :giggle: i'd hit it...

According to Priscilla, the genius waitress, an "alobar" is a unit of measurement that describes the rate at which Old Spice after-shave lotion is absorbed by the lace on crotchless underpants, although at other times she has defined it as the time it takes Chanel No. 5 to evaporate from the wing tips of a wild duck flying backward.

Either way, she also convinced me that a 3 week suspension is sufficient for my crime and who am I to question a genius waitress that makes the perfect taco. Thanks Mr. Robbins. :giggle:

I apologize to my fellow Gens. and to the admins/mods of this, my favorite, website.

Enip., I think you're on the right track with the card but, without experience, from what I've read, mirrors do slow a rig down a piece. You may prefer to use whichever drive that was going to be the catcher for your primary's pitcher and build your own external cage. Then use an imaging proggy to sync while you're sleeping. So long as your intended "mirror" has the space you could still run a stripe and get the best of all worlds. Just a thought.

All crotchless undergarments aside, I wouldn't really be doing much with the RAID +1 array the majority of the time. It would be for back up/media file storage and after the initial 2 or 3 hundred gigs worth of crap I would transfer onto it, I would only be using it for backing up new pictures and listening to music from.

Would a mirrored array really slow down such things?

Another question: Say, for example, that I use that SYBA card of mine, get two 1tb HDDs and run a mirrored array on them for the purposes already stated. If one hard drive fails, obviously I have the other with all the data. But, if the controller itself died couldn't I just take one of the drives, plug it into another controller and have it see all the info as if it hadn't been in a RAID array? Sure, the array might not be recoverable unless I was able to find another card/controller the same as the original one, but I could still access everything on either drive, right?

Thanks for all the advice, fellers.

And WB, Banjers. Your particular insanity was sorely missed. :giggle:

hey enip, you should be able to just plug and play a single storage drive off the card onto a mobo sata port. yeah, we missed banj, but for his comeback, he has to be doubly acerbic and abstruse...hey, i don't make the rules.

The acerbic part is what got me into my personal trouble in the first place. As for, ahem, abstruse (and thanks for making me learn a new word, sincerely) I'll simply say that I spent my suspension hanging out with Lucy, this gorgeous Venetian I met in Indianola, Mississippi. She owns a bulldozer made entirely of velvet and a parrot she named Stax. We're due to marry on December 21st, 1992, which may seem a logistical uphill climb but I'm not going to live the rest of my life as a lonely man.
