;) thx MO, I'm goin to expound a bit more by saying .....it's easy to get the feeling when we're skypeing to get a little loose and feel like we're at the local pub hangin and shootin the sh!t, but one must always remember that without the video an immense amount of nuance in communicating is lost. ok I'm done :D

I'll add one more thing to Storm's post ^..... Even the spoken voice conveys more than typing something out. :rofl_mini:

Yup, face-to-face conversation is done not only with words (linguistics) but intonation, movements, "feeling" (para- and meta-linguistics, the meanings beyond the definition of the words), while words on a screen are only words -- you miss a lot of the meaning (2/3 of it, in some way). One has to be careful when writing in "chat" form on the net because the words you write might have a meaning that you believe is not offending, but without all the nuances that speech brings, words can do much harm.

I don't know what happened and don't want details on it either, but I am sad it did. I have got myself into trouble a couple of times (especially with the GF) by writing something without thinking about how it could easily be misinterpreted. This is never a pleasant situation.

no sir! Actually, I'm trying to wrap my head around a koan and wandered through this thread to try and find inspiration. Didn't happen, lol. The koan:

"Two sisters cross the street. Which one is the younger sister?"

Zen has never made sense to me but I'm trying.

OK great wise and noble fellow computerists, this popped up on both the lappy and the server which are both running 64bit versions (Server 2008 x64, Vista Home Premium x64) and I don't have a clue so I appeal to your combined wisdom and expertise. Take a look and see what ya think...Bill.
