It seems people will do anything to get a PlayStation 3 this holiday season. A Minnesota radio host announced over the radio that if parents were willing to turn their children over to the station for 24 hours, they would give them a new PS3.

The joke soon turned sour when it became apparent that a majority of the callers were serious about the trade.

"We got more calls than we could handle," said Dave Ryan, "They were lined up willing to turn their kids over to strangers for a freakin' PlayStation."

Children offered included a one week and two day old baby. One caller named Katie attempted to get a PS3 by offering her 1 month old up for a 3 day period. When informed it was a hoax, she responded in disbelief.

Dave Ryan went onto say in an article,"But I didn't want them to feel too badly. I said, 'Listen you're not the only one who fell for this'. But at the same time, think about it, these are your kids, these are the most precious responsibility you'll ever have in your entire life. Be careful with your babies.' "

Have someone babysit your kid and get a PS3? Sounds like a good deal to me.

Yeah but they don't even know them. I would say DCFS should of been sitting outside the station waiting for people to come there.

Yes, take the children and DO NOT give them back. Kids have a hard enough time as it is. I wonder how the kids will feel when they find out that their parents were willing to risk them for a STUPID PIECE OF ELECTRONICS. There are some instances where sterilization would be a noble idea...talker.

On one side: this doesn't bode well for the state of our society. On the other: this is so stupid it's funny! I bet these "parents" feel punked!

Exactly talker, i find this shameful trading a human life for a material object. I just wonder if these kids will find out 20 years from now what their parents were wanting to do, and how they will feel

People drop their kids off at daycares all the time, and a lot of the parents probably don't have any idea what the people are like that work there. I'm not saying it's right, but it happens. I've known for a long time that most of the people on Earth are complete idiots and, unfortunately, most become parents at some point.

Yes, but when you drop a kid off at a day care you know mostly that they will be ok. Day Cares have to go through huge govt. regulation programs, and certifications. They also get checked by officials all the time, so there really is a huge difference there.

I read the newspaper, they're not always ok.

brew has a very valid point, besides which some "daycares" do not bother getting gov cert. an the people that bring there kids there are desperate, go to work make money pay bills ect. thus they need the daycare.
Or they are just idiots that do not check out the place before hand.

We're saying the exact opposite, plus that kids shouldn't even be dropped off at places called "daycares" if you don't know anything about them. I was just saying that this is the same (or possibly worse) than giving your kid over to a radio station.

I hope people realized that my first post in this thread was a joke.

Agree 100%. Carla and I checked out a daycare centre for Aoife a few weeks back. We wanted the full tour (they said no problem), wanted to see the qualifications of the staff (problem), safety regulations (no problem) everything we could think of. They gave us the "staff documents are confidential" so we left when they wouldn't show us. All we wanted to see were the government approved documents proving they went through proper channels to become day care employees.
