A brief History of Vista (Longhorn) and a Beta Tester:

It's been a long road with Vista aka Longhorn. Remembering back to the year 2003 and early builds leaked to the internet, I installed these builds and was awed by what I saw, and what Microsoft was working on. Keep in mind, no programs could be installed, there were quite a few bugs, and a lot of BSOD's. Builds frequently "leaked" to the web and after installing three or four of them, my interest faded, and I started working as a beta tester on windows 2003 server, x86 and x64bit. One day, word on the web was Longhorn was dead, Microsoft scrapped the code, and was going to start all over using the Server 2003 code. This was good news for me, as I had been working already with server, and wanted to see what the beginning of a new OS had in store for future users. Eventually I did get my hands on a build built on a 2003 core, and was shocked at what I saw. Everything that made the old Longhorn stand apart from any other MS OS was gone. I was running a "pretty" server 2003. Even some of my bugs that I logged in Server 2003 were legacy bugs in the new Longhorn. I knew I had to get into this beta and see if I could make a difference in this new OS.

As luck would have it, I had a friend that was beta testing Longhorn and got me into the beta. I got to know a few people in the beta, and a few people in Microsoft and was assured what early builds we were testing, and what the final results were going to be two completely different things. So I, and thousands of other beta testers tested, complained, and logged bugs. Today, you get to see the Final RTM product.

I need to let you all know, being in this beta, and working with Microsoft on what we, as a beta testers would like to see is one of the most rewarding experiences anyone could have. I cant express the amount of Faith, Money and Time Microsoft put into this product and with us. We spoke and they listened, and applied our thoughts and wishes along with theirs into this great OS.
