nVidia 8000GTX will draw 24 pixels per clock, not 32 ...

Quote

We finally got the number we have been looking for so long. Nvidia claims it has 128 shaders and some crazy super-dooper handsome numbers but we really wanted to know how many Raster Operations Units ROPs it might be capable of. It turns out that it has 24 and it can do 24 pixels per clock, ROP. We expected at least 32+ but you cannot have it all.

This means when it comes to drawing pixels, after all the calculations G80 should not be much faster than the exsisting G71 marchitecture. Obviously it has to be a bit faster here and there as it is more advanced, DirectX 10 support dooper, unified but it can draw only 24 pixels. We are talking about Geforce 8800 GTX card. The Geforce 7900 GTX has 16 ROPs.

It will be interesting to see will this affect these GPUs in real games.

I almost like, the plain looking yet cool cards like that more then the ones that Evga and XFX does with all the funky graphics on them. Simple and Eligent!!

I've just been told that my supplier is stocking both the GTS & GTX next Wednesday 8th November....and that there will be plenty of stock.

I have my worries........ Since this is an architectural change....its going to take some time to become the standard. This is no doubt made worse by the fact that it requires a brand new OS to get the most from it.

Therefore DX10 has a heavy price tag on it.....and not a small one at that!

My feeling is that Vista....along with the G80 and DX10 won't be anywhere close to mainstream until a good 6-12 months after release.....by which time there will have been at least 1 or 2 iterations of graphics cards from ATI & Nvidia as we see the performance and cost balance out.

I'm still of the opinion that anyone buying the new G80's and Vista..... are basically just guinea pigs......but if money is no object......then why not?

I think if the GTX goes for around the same price as the GX2....then I may consider.

I will be a Vista Guinea pig, but not a G80 pig...at least not for 90 days after I get my 7950GTO. :talker:

Huh I'll have to wait until at least end of 2007 before I can afford this GFX card (I suppose something better will already be out)

If they are only catching this now, what else are they missing?!! I wouldn't but the first few batches of these cards!! If you are going to spend all that money wait till it actually will work out of the box.
