IMHO the GPU client is best used on older single core CPUs. Why? It has to poll the cpu constantly and will use 100% of 1 core. This renders duals and quads ineffective for max points. GPU clients will significantly increase the output of single core rigs. :( Dual GPUs bring significantly lower frame times due to a limitation in DX9. DX10 cards aren't supported yet. If you are a points w_re like me, you don't want to run a GPU on duals and above unless you are just trying to reserve 1 core for you. :P On a quad you could run 1 gpu, 1 Linux smp in VMware and still have a core left for everything else. :(

Salute Banjo, and this is not a dog fight. It is really quite simple. Tough the Linux SMP brings many setbacks and trouble for the average PC user. Right now it will out perform any client on the block. Please no dis respect bro, its just todays facts, I will stand toe to toe with any PS3 that I come across. And I will beat it. As far as the %ege well lots of kids have PS3's. Personally I am dissapointed with console graphics, and I luv the PC platform. And the PC games?? Im old :(

You know, this could be quite interesting, but we need to level the playing field a bit, since you're running 2 cores, i bet we can find 2 cell processors we can match up against you. say you make a separate account under 51370 call it SMPx64 and we get 2 cells under 51370 and call them PS3x64 and see who comes out on top :(

only one problem with that

The Cell Chip features a multi-core design comprised of one Power PC and eight so called synergistic cores (SPEs). The prototype Cell chip is clocked at 4Ghz.

Which means that you would actually need more dual core processors to compete against one PS3

of course, and not really a competition, more of an experiment. I run SMP's and a PS3 but for what its worth, i do believe if i had 2 PS3's (2 cell cores running), it would surpass my one of my SMP machines. especially with the new F@H update

:( Absolutely. Just meant that I'm not advocating either way. I don't have a PS3 but when I saw the same story Brewin posted, it kinda blew my hair back. Pretty cool. And I'm sure we'll all agree that, regardless of the platform, more people folding is a good thing. Especially as we move into winter in certain parts of the world. Like a lot of folks, I have to cut back on my power usage to compensate for the gas bills which means my P'sPD go down. But now, we have console folks adding points! Win-win!

Why would it be more important for PS3 users. What if 60% of users used the Linux SMP, where would we be then? :(

No one is out of my sights yet. I still have a viable Linux SMP and the number is 51370!

Haha yeah I'm back! I had a couple of problems last week as I lost a 99% completed WU cause my computer crashed for no reason while installing World In Conflict and than after that it wouldn't complete any WU and I kept missing deadlines... Now everything seems fine except one thing: it tells me it cannot send back work to server, but my score does update... Well, I should be back at a 700-800 24h average pretty soon. :moreilly:

BTW I just noticed the citation in your sig, hilarious!
