INTEL LIFTED THE VEIL OF Isis, sorry a non disclosure agreement, from its "Conroe" Core 2 Duo and "Extreme" processors with a spate of hardware sites saying it beats up AMD chips.

For example, PC World described the Conroe chips as running "blazingly fast" in its tests - saying they're the fastest chips they've ever seen.

The chips, as we've noted here for some time, get a formal roll out on July 27th, but Intel wants the hardware sites to fanfare its arrival.

Tweaktown says here that the Core 2 and Core 2 Extreme "seem to be everything Intel promised and then some".

The conclusion at Tech Report is that Intel has "recaptured the desktop CPU performance title in dramatic fashion". The Core 2 Extreme and the Core 2 Duo E6700 "easily outperform" the Athlon 64 FX-62 across a range of applications.

Hexus.net says "it's difficult not to be wholly impressed with Intel's Core 2 Duo processors".

It looks like intel is showing all the people why they have been #1 for the past, forever. I think if Intel really wants to make something happen it will, just like microsoft. It just seems like the past few years they kinda just layed off, and this is what happens when they really but all theri efforts into something.

Its a good thing though, becuase now AMD is really going to have come out with some even better stuff. It also might be a good idea to do a little more work with laptops.

Form what I understood (and I could very well be wrong), Intel pleaded with AMD for help with this Conroe - can anyone confirm this?

I have always liked amd chips over any other they seem to run faster and even last longer example I currently have a amd 550 that runs everyday as my pos I upgraded that to a compaq intel 1.1ghz and that died 2 yrs ago. i went back to AMD

I guess I will have to check this out and see if intel can meet my demands

I know this might be a stupid question, but are these chips x64 or 32 bit. I take it, x64, But can it run 32bit apps and OS?

it looks like the "extreme" is em64t, haven't checked the others though...
