Not sure why, but watching that vid. reminded of an "oldie but goody" I haven't listened to in a while. Sam Cooke:
A Change Gonna Come
Very weird as those two pieces of music are so unrelated and don't share much in the way of melody, rhythm, or lyrical content. I don't know, but that version of Amazing Grace reminds me of "A Change is Gonna Come" for some reason....

WOW banj0, that song is like liquid silk in its sound and the words take you somewhere, not sure where, but it takes you far away. Glad you liked Il Divo. They have many entries on You Tube...Bill.

Yeah, I really, really enjoyed that version of Amazing Grace. I'd never heard it until you posted.
I'm not religious anymore but I attended Catholic/Jesuit schools from K-16 and have always loved hearing the hymns done in an inspiring way. Sometimes I hear them where they might not even be! As an example, Edgar Meyer released an album many years ago with Bela Fleck and Mike Marshall and one particular song they did (called Sliding Down) drove me nuts for a while until I realized that I sung the melody when I was an altar boy---the part that sticks out was singing, "In Exelcis Deo." Phonetically, it was "in ex sell seece day O." lol. Not sure if you know the hymn but I'll bet you recognize the melody: link
It works for us nerdy computer types as well---In excel sheets, day, oh. lol. Do you know the hymn? I'm almost afraid to ask because I'm sure someone will explain it's like "God Save The King" or something equally as well-known but I just can't place it.
If not, no worries---Meyer, Marshall, and Fleck's instrumental version of the melody over and over on 12 different instruments is beautiful on its own.

That is great. You can hear the under lying melody of Gloria almost hauntingly. Very well done and most intriging. I too stopped being religious many years ago. My definition of religious being closely tied to a particular denomination, its doctrine, dogma, and methods. I have stepped out of the denominations (my Church is non-denominational) with an effort to be spiritually, merely Christian. My internal life has realized a much greater Peace by striving to be spiritual than I ever achieved by being religious. Thanks again for "Sliding Down", very nice...Bill.

edit--btw Talker, I just meant that I felt silly growing up singing all those but couldn't remember the song. It's been a while and some of 'em blur together, y'know? lol.

Ah, er, well, hmmm...it is my understanding that such "blurs" can be a result of advancing age. Being that I am so young, perhaps we should ask Mo, he may know....

Great song, not even the standard Rise Against loud music (although I love their loud sound!)
If you take your time (and maybe Google a bit (where's the "google-it-stupid emoticon? )) and listen closely, it's such an ossum (Dutch way of saying awesom) song!
I'm thinking... Iraq, Afganistan, what not, dead, destruction, and may even being wrong...
It's all up to you, but don't tell me this song doesn't strike you in the heart, because it does strike everyone. Yes, even ex-military I've spoken to.
