I installed the 5342 version yesterday evening (thought it would be a quicky, after reading the first post), but it ended up being a late one...
Vista was installed and everything running properly.
Then all the trouble happened when I wanted to switch back to XP.
I couldn't get back into XP anymore, but like stated earlier in this post, I did the fixboot, and XP was back up and running... But somehow my Vista partition completely disappeared in XP :/
In the diskmanagement it said to be Healthy but 'unknown'. So I used Testdisk6.3 to get it back up and running.
So far so good, I can acces the disk again in XP.
But what I can't do anymore, is boot to Vista. The computer just automatically boots to XP.
Anyone have a clue about what to do?!

The idea in that rescue is to get back to your main OS because thats where all the important stuff is like your own docs, work, apps you've installed e.t.c
Hope this makes sense, but the best way to do this is reinstall, i dont know much about the vista boot loader, there are hidden files on your XP partition related to it too, remember to delete those.

So the only way to get it working again would be to reinstall?
Hmm but after that, the same problem will appear again. Anyone has a running dualboot on this one?

i had my spare drive of 36gb partitioned into two. first partition has win xp pro 64bit(and since im still playing with it, i opted to keep it on a separate partition).
didnt got any install issues. these are some background what i did:
1. partition a drive into 2(with first partition still having win xp 64bit)
2. formatted the 2nd partition in NTFS via another win xp installation(meaing didnt had vista formatted it)
3. boot from the dvd drive and having that hard drive as 2ndary boot device
4. pressed any key when it says "press any key to boot from cd/dvd"
5. vista installs...
now for the time consumed during the installation:
1. total time took me to install took 50 minutes in all(i dont know if its normal duration but thats how long it took me).
2. 50 minutes includes the formatting of the already formatted partition i made.
3. restarted around 3 times(not really sure if i counted it right)
some notes on installation duration:
1. during the installation it seems to be in idle a lot of time particularly the stage where it says "gathering information".
2. it may seemed IDLE since it doesnt read the dvd drive or the hd light doesnt blinks at all BUT i doubt it is since my processor's temp is going crazy(temp is high). so it might be using a lot of proc while in this stage where it seemed its on IDLE.
3. during this stage that the installation seemed IDLE just let it sit, since at first i thought it already HANG --> but it didnt. again just let it sit and do whatever its doing even without the dvd drive's light and HD's light NOT blinking.
4. when fully installed, and i tried to install the nvidia driver for vista posted in their drivers download, it become unbootable or just boots in black screen. so to fix this boot in safe mode and roll back that driver. i guess the driver in nvidia for vista is not designed for this 5342 build but for the older build. so just a precaution

here's the hardware specs for reference on the install duration:
- *ntel PD820(stock 2.8ghz) overclocked to 3.8ghz
- *sus P5WD2 Premium (*ntel 955x chipset)
- 1 gig ddr2 533mhz on 321mhz @ 4:5 ratio
- NEC dvd drive (ND-3540A) with firmware 1.W9(modded firmware)
- 36gb sata 10k RPM(WD raptor)
- nvidia 6600
^^as mentioned took 50 minutes in the install.
