Microsoft is planning on adding parental control to its Windows Live Service so parents can choose what kids can do on the Internet.

Parents will be able to monitor everything from time spent online, who they talk with and who they e-mail.
This service is already available for Premium MSN Subscribers.

"Family Safety Settings is being designed to go a step further than traditional parental controls, and will help consumers better guard themselves and their families against online content and communications they might find inappropriate," a company statement said.

Hopefully this will go toward making the internet a safer place, its important that kids below 12 and 11 aren't able to access pornography or as some of us are aware the type that want to meet kids and then kidnap them.

I think this is a good idea, i like Microsoft idea here but one thing...couldn't this be used to spy on people in your family like your spouse? :P

Yeah but this is web-based, AOL runs through that horrible buggy software that eats your memory and processor.

Oh and don't forget Vista will have some parental functions integrated, including what games can be played :P

I think that by making things harder for youngersters to accsess it will make them want to accsess it. I mean if its easy the thrill of it is not really there is it? Too much damn controlling exists in this high-tech world of ours.

True abotu the linksys and in a way I am like karl, I control my system, and also, Lino's 100% correct, as a kid I did stuff I wasn't "suppose" to do, why cause it was fun to get away with it the thrill, if mom and dad stopped caring about whatever It was that I was doing I stopped doing it. Maybe they should block out the stuff they SHOULD do ;) (J/K)

It's not a matter of trust. Kids experiment or comme across things on accident. I for one found many sites that weren't what they were suppose to be, back searching for Dragon Ball Z pictures can I came across soemthign to do with Balls and no dragons.... Confused, yes, scared, yes, as my mom wouldn't jsut say "ahh he found it searching yahoo for kid pictures" despite the fact that it was the truth, sometimes a little extra doesn't hurt ya know.
