Grisoft, Inc., has introduced a new free version of its software specifically for the Linux desktop.
AVG Free for Linux is the first commercial-grade anti-virus product developed for free home use, providing maximum virus protection for single Linux computers. Peter Lipa, President of Grisoft, Inc, made the announcement. "AVG Free for Linux is a natural progression of Grisoft's commitment to security and a natural evolution of its product line, according to Lipa. "It brings together AVG Free, our product designed for free home use by individual users, and AVG for Linux, our commercial product designed to protect Linux servers in a enterprise environment" said Lipa.
AVG Free for Linux include:
* An intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) that makes the software easy to install & use
* Rapid virus database updates for the lifetime of the product
* Small update files that do not drain system resources
* Automatic update functionality
* AVG On-Demand Scanner, which allows users to perform scheduled and manual tests
* Advanced virus detection methods designed to provide maximum virus protection

AVG is quite a good piece of kit, i used to put it on pc's i built for people.

AVG is nice and since Norton decided to play with rootkits I'm thinking AVG sounds really nice right now
and best of all, they are broadening their horizons, glad to see they are serving the Linux systems now

i agree shadow, that was disappointing, because even people who weren't users of Norton thought hell thats bad (example: me)
AVG is one of if not the best free option. They also do one they charge for and since the rootkit thing, i hope they do well.
Microsoft's Security Center (SP2 feature or pain depending how you feel) that detects internet protection software sees AVG, so if anything MS take them serious

the way i look at anti virus is that ,its what ever floats u boat,but i wont touch norton with a barge pole,every new edition comes with some new peice of crap to slow my pc down....
