I don't believe that Open Office is better than Office 2003 or that it will hold anything over Office12. But its ideal for people who haven't got money for an expensive package and need their software to be legitimate.

Download it Here

Free software isn't always the most powerful for some it can certainly be used if they don't require the 'best'.

There was a stage in my life when I was very quick to judge OpenOffice. I first used version 1 and I hated it. Then version 2 came out and I used it and was impressed so much so that I didn't want to use MS Office again. (at that time I was using Office XP)

Then I got Office 2003 and loved it and now Office 12 and I love that. After reading this thread it finally dauned in me that considering OpenOffice is

a) Very cheap aka its FREE
B) Can open the old MS Office formats
c) Its not made by a billion dollar company
d) It doesn't claim to be the next best thing

considering all that I think OpenOffice is great. Although I think they really need to improve their GUI.

I really like Open Office. The download is tiny by office package standards. It will run on just about every operating system, and it is free!!
Now that Google has decided to back it and is pouring some money into the developement, hopefully the future versions will have more improved graphics!
All in all, it is small and simple to use. I still use it from time to time. The absolute best office suite for the price!!
