i decided to give yet another distro a try :( after several installs and reformats, i found (atm) that the uberyl beta has something to it (for me). i managed to finally get audio working in ubuntu (!!!), and so it was now down to which distro could do beryl, nice audio, and the automatix app off the shelf. i so far have had luck only with uberyl...so i'm gonna give it a shake down, and see what happens...

Never heard of that distro MO. Sounds cool! Good luck.

Feisty Fawn has the Beryl stuff pretty much built in. Somtimes spinning the desktop feels therapeutic. :(

bad news here, i'm afraid. if i get the spinning cube going, the themes don't load, and i'm unable to move windows around on the desktop!. if i use gnome, i loose the eye candy! same on the 3 debian distros i tried today...no love here :(

edit: sounds like i will need to configure the nvidia driver...

i was really happy to finally have support for the c-media 8788 chip (thanks to oss!). secret: disable alsa before installing the oss drivers. in a terminal (hit enter after each): sudo update-rc.d -f alsa remove , then: sudo update-rc.d -f alsa-utils remove :(
