:dribble: My brother bought an Acer Aspire 5920 lappy for my nephew for Christmas, and he couldn't get it to connect to his printer on his XP (home ed) computer. I know that the XP computer is set up right since i was able to connect to the printer thru an XP machine on site. I shut down the firewalls (Norton *shudder* and Windows) and was able to see the networked computers but i did not have the proper access to add a networked printer to the Acer lappy. The Acer is running Vista Premium and i set the network connection to a private network and enabled network discovery. I spent quite a long time troubleshooting it, but to no avail. Am i missing something guys?

Hi Christo,
Hmmm, not sure what the problem is, I have one printer (USB) attached to my XP x64 rig and my network (RJ-45) printer attached to an XP x86 rig. I can see and print to either printer from any system on the network including the Vista Ult x64 and the wireless lappy with Vista Home Prem. I did mark the priinters to be shared on the installed systems and then merely installed a network printer on the remote systems. They found the networked printers and ask to install the drivers I said yes and that was it....instant printing. I did not try any network configurations other than that which is installed by each system as the beginning. It was really that simple and as you can see, I have 4 versions of the OS...XP x86, XP x64, Vista Hm Prem x86, and Vista Ult x64 all hooked by hard wire or wireless and it all makes no difference. Are you trying too hard to make things work. Remember Occam's Razor (to paraphrase)...When all else fails, the simplest solution is probably correct. Good luck...talker. :dribble:

you may have to map the printer, vista is kinda funny that way, then you can set it up in your printers and Faxes
