Some interesting info from the inq:

"DirectX 9.0 L is simply a renamed and refurbished DirectX 10 for Windows XP. It will make DirectX 10 games to work on Windows XP."

Comment away!

i remember reading the "original" mention of this in '05. i think this is a measure for these games to "work" in xp, and allow the christmas $$$ to be spent, pending the release of vista...

:talker: Im not surprised. Christmas is when game makers have the biggest part of the whole year profits, so they had two real choices; develop dx10 games and put some pressure on M$ to port it to xp or hold a bit and keep developing dx9 games, what wouldnt be a good marketing option in my opinion.

Just a heads up... Inq forgot what the "L" stood for...

Dont try and install it on XP :talker:

Quote

DX9.0L is a special version of DirectX 9 for Vista only that allows DX9 games to run with Vista's new driver model. It's not possible to run D3D10 on XP without running in pure software emulation.

regardless , game makers are going to make games for Dx10 simply because they can do more with DX10 then they can with 9 ..so i wouldnt expect very many games post vista release to get ported back or look just as good on Xp.
