If you make a custom XP installation with nLite and remove Internet Explorer, you will have all sorts of problems. I tried it out a few weeks ago and found that there is NO way to reinstall IE, and you'd be suprised how much IE is needed over Firefox regardless of superiority. I've also had major system lags and high cpu usage (never happens even with vista) So, just a tip if you try creating an unattended installation with removed components expect problems.

Internet explorer is plugged into lots of things. For example you could open my documents, type in an URL and end up in IE.

Therefore i'd say your right!
