Its for Real, its Called Alpha Blending

Windows since Windows 2000 GDI has supported RGBA

basically it means Red Green Blue Alpha

So the RGB value is based on RGB and the Alpha Value, GDI defines the Alpha Value defined by whats behind the Foreground Value.

I hope i explained that good enough.

That must have been a bug in the sidebar..does it stay like that if you restart it?

Also before Windows Vista, the GUI has been based on bitmap graphics. Icons are forms of bitmaps, entire windows and elements are bitmaps, everything is bitmaps. Now in Vista, it seems we're moving more into vector graphics and more advanced image formats that all support transparency- and its being applied to everything. The reason we couldnt have nice looking transparent windows before was because no one really had the hardware for it. Just imagine adding an alpha channel to every element, devising a way to support that alpha channel inside and out, and on top of that make it work with hardware we didn't have. But now we do have it! :P

Wow dude? you know your stuff! No, i can restart the sidebar, and all is fine. It just seems they superimposed an image on top of the sidebar, made a little darker. I was looking at it going is this a MS trick??

Is there a way to change the transparancy of the windows, like in the ie explorer and stuff or is ONLY ie explorer transparent? I think it's a little too transparent, it needs to be a bit more opaque so you can read it better, the urls that is.

Hm..thats a possibility..but you've also got to remember, the Sidebar isn't actually a part of the system (yet), and i'm pretty sure it uses .Net 2.0 which still has problems. But I know its something totally different from Windows and its GUI.

The entire interface is made to be transparent...think of in XP, the blue gradients everywhere and everything that makes up the windows. But so far from what I've seen its only explorer and IE that have a skinned transparent address bar. You might want to check out this program if you want to change DWM settings. StyleVista

I found the WindowsFX... Very nice, I like it, I might actually have to buy it, just amazing thanks again for that link!

p.s. I recomment this program and believe it or not it doesn't really slow down your computer and I don't see any change in memory/page file usage, so It's safe for slower and lower ram machines :P... I think I need to make a review :)

Hey dude its no problem! You might want to wait a few weeks for the next build though. :P It should be much more stable than the current build, especially with DWM.
