The scale of the Windows 7 Experience Index ranges from 1.0 to 7.9. After some recent tuning I got my system scoring 7.3, except hard disk, which is scoring just 5.9 (base score).

Altough 5.9 is a decent score I'm seriously considering going RAID-0. For US$ 90 I can get another identical HD. How much do you think performance will increase with 2 disks in RAID-0?

Windows Experience Index before tuning

CPU @ 3.06 (+27% oc'ed) and GPU @ 625 / 993

Windows Experience Index after tuning

CPU @ 3.40 (+46% oc'ed) and GPU @ 675 / 1100

WEI is unreliable at the best of times and shouldn't be used for any serious benchmarking. As a quick guide its OK.

Mine is 6.9 and falling. Every time I run it, I get a lesser score due to this shitty OCZ drive and erratic WEI, started at 7.2, have now given up.

You won't see any speed increase unless it's a dedicated RAID card you'll be using. I'm using RAID0 on crappy Intel RAID and I get the same 5.9 in RAID as I do in non RAID. Then again, my drives are at least 4 years old ....

I found a lot of free HD bench tools here: http://www.benchmark...ml?/be_hdd.html

HD Tach 3.0:

I'm disappointed at RAID, at least on-board solutions. Note the performance comparison between my 500GB SATA2 HD (red) to an Intel controlled RAID-0 w/ 2 250GB 7200rpm HDs (blue).

Better forget the RAID thing for a while... Maybe in my next build I put a dedicated card.

Thanks for your inputs !

actually the win7 winsat test is pretty good. i would use it above other benches.
rik, i think it's the carpenter, not the tool, that is having issues...

i get an overall of 7.8 with a card, and using my south bridge, get 7.9... this, however, changes when doing specific portions of the winsat/atto 2.46/everest, etc.

here is a win7 winsat with an LSI card and four ocz ssds, raid0:

and an atto (version 2.46):

I think so. The results are very close to those of HD Tach and other benchs.

Winsat - seq. read: 86.92 MB/s
HD Tach - seq. read: 85.40 MB/s
Winsat - seq. write: 56.38 MB/s
Quick Bench - seq. write: 56.25 MB/s

MO, what's you opinion about on-board RAID controllers? Is it worth to go RAID-0 with an Intel controler on ICH7?

sure, as long as you can use the intel storage manager app (manages the array, allows write back cache, etc.), though i'm not quite sure how many pci-e lanes/bandwidth the ich7 has.
