Odd really how these words sound similar and yes in the computer world can mean opposites...
or do they?

Microsoft's software is believed to call home from time to time and certainly whatever data is
shared, they know if a copy is legal or not.

Do you think we are in danger of not keeping our privacy with future software releases to help
combat piracy?

Yes and no, It's always a crime no matter what, I do it becaus eI lack money but I know if I get caught, I'll lack even MORE money, so it's a Catch 22 deal you know. Keeping your privacy is important especailly with all the identity theft around, I for one AM a victim, I got signed up for some stupid magazine subscription that I can't get out of and I refuse to pay the bill. Somehow someone got my Cellphone number, Home Phone Number, Credit Card Number and Social Security number... funny because the ONLY thing I eveer used ANY of this info on is PayPal... secure? I think not.. Or maybe it is secure, Microsoft just keeps logs or everything typed and some how, someone's gotten in... I dunno. But keeping yourself secret tends to lead to other hazardous dangers. So it's either throw yourself to the sharks and swim like hell, or stay in the kiddie pool and miss out on the fun. Take your pick... you know where I stand, I'ma go d/l another cd.

lol... I hate it when people ask my to d/l old stuff, the other day my girlfriend looked at me and said "Do you have the Alanis Morrisette CD?" I looked at her, tried hard, but then laughed, and I asked "Have you seen my cd collection, does it look like I listen to Alanis?" and she replied "No, Will you d/l and burn it for me... I love you baby". Then she had that look in her eye and I couldn't say no -.- and to my amazment, it was shared, and d/l quite rapidly

I think it is a blatant invasion of privacy...while what we're doing ins't entirely legal, they should be glad we re not distributing it or selling it.

There's a difference between what Blizzard is doing w/ WoW (checking hashes for running programs against a database to detect cheats, but not transmitting any identifiable info) and what Sony did with their rootkit. Ironically, some hackers ($5 says it's the guy who makes cheats for WoW who accused them of installing spyware because they caught him red-handed) who have used the Sony rootkit to hide WoW cheats from the Warden application. As much as I hate what Sony did, I hate idiots who misuse rootkits to hide their own tricks more, because it's their actions that make companies like Microsoft, Sony, etc. to adopt more radical measures to combat perceived abuses.
