images/news/apple.jpgApple's Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple's Chief Operating Officer, as the company's new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately.

"Steve's extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world's most innovative and valuable technology company," said Art Levinson, Chairman of Genentech, on behalf of Apple's Board. "Steve has made countless contributions to Apple's success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple's immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration."

I'm not an apple fan but anyone who has pushed the technology forward and given us a truly competitive computer market is OK by me! Without him apple would have gone under years ago and our PCs would not only cost more but probably not do nearly as much.

I hope he has a very happy and satisfying life for as long as he is still with us.

hey all,

although you all have your personal opinions on people in general, I think you're all being a bit harsh on life. Cancer is something I would not want to wish on anyone.

My mom looked this way 2 weeks before her passing, I do hope this picture is fake.

Still stands, but I was referring to his job position, and nothing else.

Just thought I'd clear that one up.

cancer is preventable contrary to popular belief if you know someone who has cancer in your family - the microwave is not your best friend.

and, i dont think jobs is really that innovative, however his ideas on new products have revolutionized a rather stale company.

he was a great ceo.

thing is apple sells good products, however they are overpriced and produce tons of pollution. i hate apple stores, they are the plague.

still Jobs will be remembered for his contributions to the home pc, operating systems, and of course touch based software and tech.

oh, you can also prevent cancer by not eating processed foood.
