The Red Screen of Death is the bigger, badder cousin to the traditional blue screen.
It is/was designed to let users know that a more serious error has occurred.
Red Screen of Death is a nickname for the error message which existed in some beta versions of Vista.
It was dropped in Beta 1 (Build 5112) of Windows Vista for all errors except boot loader errors.
Long Live the Red Screen of Death!
