For example if you were installing Vista and it crashed, you installed Vista and removed it in correctly or just deleted bootmgr somehow for fun then you want help!

this is HOW to deal with it after it happens, remember it cos it saved my life twice with an earlier 52xx build. Vista now has its own Boot manager to get the Dual boot screen.

This is VERY easy to repair but should you get the message "BOOTMGR missing press ctrl alt and del to restart" then do the following.
  • Boot from your XP/2003 Disc
  • Once at the main menu, press R to Repair your installation
  • Login to your XP/Server Partition from the Repair Console
  • Type FIXBOOT

Same here. Had 5270 fail three times to install and then leave me locked out of XP.

Thanks for the tip Karl. You know one would think that Microsoft would have made sure that Vista would not mess up XP's boot.

Also thanks to Exploding B0B - Go to repair console same as above, choose the XP partition and type the following...

E:\ being the CD and C:\ being XP Partition

Copy E:\i386\Ntldr C:\

and also Copy E:\i386\Ntdetect.com C:

Exit the repair console and that also should rescue where the above tweak from me doesn't!
