Sony unveiled its next-generation PlayStation portable on last Thursday.

The device includes a 5″ touchscreen OLED display with 960×544 resolution, dual analog sticks, 3G, WiFi, GPS, a rear-mounted touchpad, accelerometer/gyroscope motion sensing, compass and dual cameras front and back. The most important part of the device from a Windows perspective is that it includes a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor. For more images, video and device information see Engadget’s in-depth coverage.

Sony’s ARM chip choice means the next PSP could run Windows 8. Microsoft officials demonstrated an early build of Windows 8 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. The build, number 6.2.7867, included Microsoft’s new support for ARM chips. Microsoft is partnering with ARM-based manufactures NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments to build support for the processors straight into its next-generation of Windows.
