After trying to downgrade my nVidia drivers from 191.03 to 186.18, Windows hangs on the loading screen.
I can get into the safe-mode, so I'm guessing it has something to do with this driver, but reinstalling the driver doesn't solve the problem.

Anyone?

Gonna format later this week :moreilly:

And downgrading is not for fun, if you have an nVidia vga, stay with version 186.18, it's the fastest and most stable there is.

I've resolved my problem this way, eventually:
>Boot into safe mode
>Remove latest driver (3 times)
>Reboot into safe mode
>Install driver 186.18
>Reboot into safe mode
>Reset settings
>Reboot into normal mode, low graphics
>Install driver 186.18
>Reboot
>P A R T Y ! ! !

Yes, it's a hassle, but it worked...

And really, do not go for the latest nVidia driver, version 186.18, available from the driver-archive, is really the way to go, it's the best driver, even working with my 8G of RAM.

As I've said many times before, stay well clear of the 19x.xx series driver set, its borked completely :moreilly:

The best way to downgrade if one has been so stupid to actually use these drivers:

1. Remove driver from add/remove programs and do not reboot.

2. Clear all Nvidia driver traces with Driver Sweeper 2.05

3. Reboot into SAFE mode.

4. Run Driver Sweeper again to catch files that were locked.

5. Reboot into NORMAL mode, ignoring the install dialog for drivers and close it.

6. Install driver set 186.18.

7. Reboot again and configure drivers in Nvidia Control Panel.

8. Disable the two services below:

The above ensures complete and proper removal of previous drivers and eliminates potential conflicts in the system.

That's pretty much what I did, except disabling the services. Thanks!

And yeah, MS Update installs the latest version, without any questions, I guess that caused the problem in the first place :moreilly:

Ok, while on my vga-card, the fan is rattling!

Should I send it in for RMA, or let it run-and-hope-for-the-best?

The rattling isn't annoying, but when you closely listen, it is obviously an unbalanced fan...

My issue is not noise, it's good and quiet

My issue is the darn thing rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr'ing all the time, which is kinda scary, because it sounds like the thing is unbalanced :banj0:

But I like that idea, I think I'm gonna bring out my old 6600GT and run some tests on routing the fanspeed, either via my control, but if not, I'd like nVidia driver to control the speed...

Should be possible, right? Just a matter of some diodes :moreilly:

Hey guys whats wrong with the 190 drivers ? i havent had a single issue with them, or any of my freinds at the lans. We all keep up to the latest drivers so we have the best optimizations for the latest games and me especially so i keep my GTX295 up to date with the SLI profiles.
