Hi Simon, If I were you, I would sit tight, get to know some folks here on x64, post your questions, like this one, and soon enough someone will help you out with your needs :) I would also expect to see a public beta coming out from Microsoft very soon ;) but to be informed on what you need to get and need to do before hand will make you a pro at installation even before it is released :P

talk about beta here read this :
Hello!

We'd like you to be among the first to try a new beta version of Messenger.

If you use MSNĀ® Messenger now, we think you're really going to enjoy Windows Live™ Messenger. It's as fun and reliable as the Messenger you already know, and you won't lose your contact list or any other personal information when you try this new version.

Some of the new stuff it will let you do:

Use Windows Live™ Call to sign-up for MCI Web Calling to get incredibly low rates on calls to phones across the country or around the world
Drop documents into special folders that you and your contact can access even when one of you is off-line
